    • Welcome to Week 01 – Day 4: Citing Textual Evidence to Support Analysis

      In this lesson, you will develop your ability to identify and cite textual evidence in nonfiction texts. This critical reading skill enables you to support your analysis and responses with precise references to the text, in alignment with RI.7.1 of the Grade 7 English Language Arts standards.

      Throughout the session, you will engage with a short informational passage, practice selecting relevant evidence, and apply appropriate citation strategies using academic sentence starters. This lesson aims to strengthen your analytical thinking and written communication.

    • By the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to:

      1. Define what textual evidence is.

      2. Identify relevant evidence in an informational text.

      3. Use sentence starters to cite textual evidence accurately.

      4. Respond to questions using cited evidence.

    • This pre-quiz is designed to assess your initial understanding of textual evidence and its role in reading comprehension. You will answer a series of brief questions to demonstrate your ability to recognize and interpret evidence within a nonfiction text. The results will help guide instructional focus during the lesson. 

    • This quiz assesses your ability to identify and cite textual evidence from a nonfiction passage. You will respond to a set of questions requiring you to locate relevant information in the text and use appropriate citation strategies to support your analysis. The quiz is designed to measure your understanding of key concepts introduced in the lesson and your proficiency in applying citing texts skills.

    • This follow-up quiz evaluates your ability to apply textual evidence in written analysis. You will read a short informational passage and respond to prompts that require citing specific evidence to support your answers. This assessment focuses on your understanding of how to integrate direct references from the text using sentence frames and proper citation techniques.
