In this lesson, students will develop their ability to determine the main idea across multiple paragraphs in nonfiction texts. Using the engaging passage "Explorers," students will practice identifying how supporting details are organized and contribute to the central message. They will also learn to apply graphic organizers to organize their thinking and analyze informational content. Through reading, discussion, quizzes, and written practice, students will build strong foundational reading comprehension skills aligned to Standard RI.5.2.

This lesson encourages critical thinking, evidence-based responses, and a clearer understanding of how nonfiction texts are structured for meaning.
