Week 03 – Day 2: Grammar in Context – Reading Comprehension
Grade 5

This lesson explores how grammar functions in real-life reading situations. Students will practice identifying sentence types, fragments, run-ons, and proper punctuation in the context of a reading passage. The aim is to strengthen both reading comprehension and grammar awareness, helping students become more effective and confident readers and writers. This interactive session includes a passage analysis, multiple-choice comprehension questions, grammar review, and a self-assessment to reflect on progress.

Week 03 – Day 2: Enhancing Writing with Varied Sentence Structures – Grade 5
Grade 5

This course is designed to help Grade 5 students develop stronger, more engaging writing by learning to use a variety of sentence structures. Through interactive lessons, guided practice, quizzes, and multimedia content, students will explore the four main types of sentences—simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex—and how to apply them effectively in their own writing. The course supports students in achieving Massachusetts ELA Standard L.5.1e by encouraging them to vary sentence patterns to improve clarity, interest, and style.

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Identify the four types of sentence structures.

  • Understand the function and construction of each sentence type.

  • Use varied sentence structures in their own writing for better flow and expression.

  • Edit and revise sentences to avoid repetition and monotony.

This self-paced course is part of a larger module on grammar and writing mechanics, designed to build foundational skills for effective communication.

Week 2 Day 3 – Understanding Sentence Fragments and Run-On Sentences
Grade 5

In this lesson, students will explore the difference between complete sentences, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences. Through guided instruction, examples, and interactive activities, students will learn how to identify and correct sentence fragments and run-ons using proper punctuation and conjunctions. This lesson builds foundational grammar skills necessary for clear and effective writing. By the end of the session, students will be able to construct grammatically correct sentences that express complete thoughts.

Week 01 – Day 3: Basic Grammar Review – Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives & Adverbs
Grade 5

Week 01 – Day 2: Simple and Compound Sentences
Grade 5

Welcome to Sentence Structure!

In this course, we will examine simple and compound sentences, focusing on their construction and function within written communication. Through a structured approach, we will refine sentence structures and enhance our understanding of grammar. This lesson includes interactive activities and applied grammar exercises designed to strengthen writing proficiency and clarity.

Week 01 – Day 3: Exploring Complex Sentence Types
Grade 5

In Grade 5, students build a strong foundation in language by expanding their vocabulary, improving grammar skills, and refining their ability to write and speak clearly. They learn to use correct verb tenses, conjunctions, and punctuation, such as commas in compound sentences. Students also explore figurative language, synonyms, and antonyms to enhance their writing. They practice identifying and using different sentence structures to improve clarity and style. By analyzing context clues, they develop strategies for understanding new words. These language skills help students express their ideas effectively in both spoken and written communication, preparing them for more advanced learning in middle school.
